Our Massage Therapist

Melissa McCutcheon, LMT

I used to resent it! "Will you rub my back?" "Will you rub my back?" Sometimes there were no words at all, just this puppy dog look that said, "Will you rub my back?" It was a double edge sword. I loved that I could do something that would help people and yet, I felt used. So when it came time to pick my college career, I knew I wanted to do something to help people, but I wasn’t convinced massage therapy was the right thing for me. So I picked the occupational therapy assistant program in Watertown, SD, which took me a journey to the Human Service Department in Yankton, SD. I loved the rehab part of occupational therapy, but getting some of my patients to go through their rehab program was a bit of a challenge. So I found that using mini shoulder and feet massages helped my patients relax and work harder. If it wasn’t for these experiences, I would have never re-thought what it meant to give a person a massage and how rewarding it could really be.

My massage technique is a little different from the norm. I mix a relaxing environment with a therapeutic massage that includes stretching, trigger point therapy and myofascial release in order to get that one of a kind massage.

Now, with the resentment gone and the passion for massage back, I have my life again. I have had the opportunity to enjoy my new life as a wife, a better friend, and a more relaxed person.

Dr. Schneider Asks some important questions of interest to Brookings residents - Chiropractor Brookings Dr. Schneider Asks...

What's the difference between maintenance, prevention and wellness?
Maintenance chiropractic care is an attempt to keep a dynamic, ever-changing and adapting organism (you) in a static relationship with your environment. Preventive chiropractic care is mostly about early detection. Wellness chiropractic care is an attempt to optimize our health and be all that you were designed to be.
Why are chiropractors wary of the germ theory?
Louis Pasteur originated the idea that germs caused disease. Yet, on his deathbed he recanted, declaring, "It's not the seed, but the soil." Meaning, it's not the germ that causes disease, but the condition of the body that allows the germ to thrive. Chiropractic care in our Brookings office is designed to bolster your resistance so germs don't see you as a good host.
